downloaded by Peter Bird on 1998.2.11.

On 2000.08.21, this URL no longer worked, but
I found similar data for on-line query at:
http://nmnhwww.si.edu/gvp/volcano/index.htm

It lists volcanoes (mostly above sea level, a few below)
that have been active in the last 10,000 years.

Credit the "Smithsonian Institution, Global Volcanism Program"
whenever this data is plotted or reproduced.

Based on the similarity in the number of volcanoes (1,509 vs. 1,511),
I think the proper printed reference would be:
T. Simkin and L. Siebert [1995] Volcanoes of the World, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC.
