OrbMapAI is a graphics (map-making) post-processing program associated with our thin-shell dynamic finite-element program Shells. It can plot either input files (some nodal data) or output files (computed velocities, anelastic strain-rates, fault slip rates, vertically-integrated stress anomalies, etc.). OrbMapAI runs as a batch job (in text mode) and produces an Adobe Illustrator .ai file as its product. The "template" Adobe Illustrator files LanModel.ai and PorModel.ai must be available in the working directory for OrbMapAI to read. The input lines which control the plot produced, the scale and contour interval, etc. are at the bottom end of the parameter input file for the run of Shells (e.g., iEarth5-049.in). Frankly, OrbMapAI has received no attention for at least a decade, while I have been working on the replacement graphics program FiniteMap. Most users will probably be happier with FiniteMap because it offers much more control over map format and contents, and asks questions interactively as needed. It also uses dynamic memory allocation, so it is rarely necessary to recompile it. You can find FiniteMap in the higher-level directory /oldFTP/FiniteMap/. Best wishes, Peter Bird UCLA 2007.10.08
